Auto Collision Incidents, how to avoid them

The best way to avoid an auto collision incident is to keep your distance from the vehicles in front of you. The recommended distance to avoid a car accident is directly proportional to the speed you are driving. The faster you are going, the more distance you will need from the vehicle in front of you. The reason for doing this is to allow you to have time to take evasive action if needed to avoid an accident. It is also important to consider the weather conditions. If it is raining, it is wise to increase the distance even more.

The three second rule to avoid a car accident

Always attempt to keep a two seconds space between you and the vehicle that is in front of you. If you are on a highway, you should try to keep a three or four seconds space.

An easy way to do this is to look for a stationary object in the road, once the back bumper of the vehicle driving in front of you passes it, start counting the time until you reach it. If you can’t count at least till three (seconds), open up the distance until you can. Remember to allow even more time if the weather conditions are poor.

The escape route

Another thing to consider while driving is to always be in the lookout for an escape route. Avoid driving at the same speed as the car next to you. Slow down, or increase your speed, but, always attempt to keep an alternative lane   you need to avoid the vehicles driving ahead of you.

All vehicles have blind spots. Areas in which you can’t see the vehicle next to you. Trucks have even larger ones. So keep in mind that if you can’t see the face of the truck driver in his mirror, he can’t see yours ether.
